Tensions between Brazil and Argentina have reached an unprecedented level.

Brazilian authorities described the remarks as offensive, not only to the head of state and the judiciary but also to the Brazilian people as a whole. This crisis is being presented as the most severe between the two countries in decades. Even during periods of military governments, no foreign head of state had made such statements on Brazilian territory. While no concrete retaliatory measures have been announced yet, trade relations, already fragile, could suffer. Brazil remains Argentina’s top economic partner, and this verbal escalation risks worsening existing tensions.

The Argentinian ambassador Raimondi, known for his discretion, now finds himself at the center of a diplomatic storm he did not provoke. His role will be crucial in attempting to ease tensions, as Milei maintains an uncompromising stance, refusing to apologize for his statements.
